“DeepGruha –Light House Project”Supported by UPS India Foundation

A Project for Strengthening and capacity building of 28 NGOs form 35 districts of Maharashtra to emerge as transparent, credible and sustainable organizations was approved by UPS Foundation in August  2010.

The project was evolved considering following needs of NGOs :

  • To strengthen themselves
  • To progress in the direction of VISION & MISSION of the organization
  • Good governance focusing on transparency, accountability and credibility
  • Hand holding support and guidance on  newer techniques and systems
  • Understanding the challenges of the sector and emerging issues

The various project activities includes :

  • Conduct of 10 Trainings of 3 days duration on issues and felt needs of NGOs
  • Field supervisory visits to partner NGOs for hand holding support and for assessment of applicability of knowledge and skills in their respective field operations
  • Release of 2 six monthly newsletter for sharing of experiences and documentation of  learnings including the best practices for corrective actions and future improvements 

Project Unfolded

  • An intensive questionnaire was developed and mailed to 219 smaller NGOs form 34 districts of Maharashtra
  • The screening committee consisting of Dr. Mukund Ghare former president AFARM Pune; smt. Mangala Daihankar; smt. Hema Bhalerao and Mr. Vijay Nadkarni Ex - ED Credibility Alliance selected 34 NGOs form 19 districts on 9th  November 2010
  • Orientation meeting held on 15/11/2010 was attended by 28 NGOd from 17 districts
  • The participant NGOs spelt out their TNA's under 5 broad areas vise. NGO management; resource mobilization; project proposal formulation, project management, project evaluation and monitoring, financial management, communication skills & use of modern technology
  • The issues related to organizational development like VISION & MISSON; staff motivation; Skill building of Staff; various policies applicable to the NGOs transparency and accountability were also identified.
  • A formal MoU between STAPI and partnering organization was signed on 1st December 2010

The Deep Gruha Light House Project supported by UPS Foundation

A Project for Strengthening and capacity building of 28 NGOs from 35 districts of Maharashtra to emerge as transparent, credible and sustainable organizations was approved by UPS India Foundation for the period August 2010-July 2011 was further extended to February 2012.

The screening committee members guided and interacted with the participants throughout the project period through interactive sessions during various trainings and during supportive supervision

A total of 12 trainings as against planned 10 were organized during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.

As a part of project activities, a total of 41 supportive supervision visits to 25 partner NGOs from 17 districts were organized during September 2010 - March 2012.

Two issues of newsletter “Samwad” were released during the project period.

Capacity Building Initiatives under “Deep Gruha - Light House Project”

“Deep Gruha - Light House Project” - A project for strengthening and capacity building of 28 NGOs from 35 districts of Maharashtra to emerge as transparent, credible and sustainable organizations was implemented with the support of UPS India Foundation during August 2010 - February 2012.

The second phase of the project started with 18 NGOs partners from 13 Districts. The Members of the Screening Committee, Resource Persons and the project team guided and interacted with the partner NGO's through various training sessions and handholding support was also provided during supportive supervision.

Two trainings on “Organizational Development Process - Strategic Planning - A Way Ahead” under “Deep Gruha - Light House” project phase II were organized during 24-26 July 2012 and 05 - 07 November 2012 with the support of Shroff Family Charitable Trust Mumbai. 

Two regional workshops were also organized for partner NGOs of “Deep Gruha - Light House” project during 12-13 March 2013 and 25-26 March 2013 at Pune and Nagpur respectively.

The objective of Regional workshops was to review past assignments for future improvisation and facilitate discussions on assessment indicators of OD process.

DeepGruha –Light House Project Supported by Shroff Family Charitable Trust, Mumbai

The first phase of Deep Gruha –Light House Project (August 2010- January 2012) was implemented with the support of UPS India Foundation. The Second Phase (February 2012 –March 2014) was initiated with 18 partner  NGOs from 13 districts of Maharashtra, with the partial support by Shroff Family Charitable Trust, Mumbai

The Phase III of “Deep Gruha –Light House Project was initiated during the period under report. The Members Governing Council STAPI participated in an interactive meeting with Members of Project Screening Committee and Deepgruha-Light House Project partner NGOs on 30/5/2013.

The Shroff Family Charitable Trust Mumbai supported the capacity building initiatives during the period under report. Seven training programmes (02 of  02 days and 05 of 03 days duration) were organized during the period under report. 

A  02 days training in Marketing of SHG Products was also organized for our partner NGO –Shramik  Janata Vikas Sanstha Taluka Javali District Satara on  25-26 March 2014 .

The capacity building initiatives of second phase of “DeepGruha –Light House Project”, (February 2012  March 2014 )  with 19 NGOs from 13 districts of Maharashtra  was  supported by Shroff Family Charitable Trust, Mumbai.

The objective of the field supervisory visits was to find out the organization’s ability for effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery, with special emphasis on sustainability, and to distinguish the organisation’s ability to face the future challenges.

About OD Specific Events:

The third Phase of “DeepGruha –Light House Project, was initiated from April 2014. A total of 5 trainings were organized during the period under report with the support of UPS India Foundation.

Screening Committee Meeting - 02/07/2014  “DeepGruha – Light House Project”:

The Nineth Screening Committee Meeting was held on 2 July 2014 at STAPI Pune.  The Screening Committee reviewed the performance of 19 partner NGOs.The Committee also recommended  field visits to 9 new applicant NGOs from 3 districts of Maharashtra for a pre appraisal prior to their inclusion in the “DeepGruha –Light House Project”. 

About Pre Appraisal and Assessment Visits :

As per the discussions and decision of the  Nineth Screening Committee Meeting held on July 02, 2014,, 09  NGOs, the shortlisted Nine  NGOs from 03 districts of Maharashtra were jointly visited by Project field staff and Members of the Screening Committee during  19-26 August, 2014.

About Field Supervisory Visits :

Based on the performance and involvement of Partner NGOs in “DeepGruha –Light House Project, the field supervisory vists were  organsied to 09 Partner NGOs from 06 distrcts of Mahrashtra.

(One each from Aurangabad, Nandurbar, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Buldhana  and 04 from Amravati district of Maharashtra).

About OD Specific Events :

The objective of the OD sepcfic events was to observe and assess the inculcation of organsiational development provcess within the partner NGOs with a focus on Governance, Management Systems, Human Resources, Financial Resources, Quality of Programme Delivery, External relations and Networking and sustainability in their operations

The partner NGOs discussed the plan of action for initiation of OD Specfic events at their level during capacity building training of 12-14 March 2015. The activities under OD Specific Events will commence in 2015- 2016.

The first issue of project newsletter “SAMAVAD” was also published during the period under report.

The second phase of the project was initiated during March 2012 – March 2014 with 19 NGOs from 11 districts of Maharashtra. The  capacity building initiatives were organized with the support of Shroff Family Charitable Trust Mumbai.

The third phase of Deep Gruha –Light House Project commenced during April 2014 –March 2016. Three residential trainings organizational development process were  organized during September 2015 and March 2016.

About Field Supervisory Visits :

The visits to 16  Project Partner NGO from 11 districts  of Maharashtra were also undertaken (Chandrapur – 2, Nanded -2, Amravati -4 and one each from Nandurbar, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Bhandara, Buladhana, Latur, Satara and Pune)  during the period under report. The objective of the field visit was to assess and review the process of inculcate of organization development Process at respective NGO level.  

Deep Gruha –Light House Project with the support of UPS India Foundation :

A Project for emergence of transparent, credible and sustainable organizations was implemented with the support of UPS India Foundation during the period August 2010- July 2016.

The third phase of Deep Gruha –Light House Project was initiated with 18 NGOs from 13 districts of Maharashtra during April 2014- July 2016. Out of 5 trainings, 03 outstation training programmes for strengthening Networking Forums as Knowledge Partners were organized at Satara, Amravati (covering both Amravati and Chandrapur) and Buldhana districts with the active participation of Deep Gruha Partner NGOs from the districts of Satara, Buldhana, and Amravati. These trainings enabled us in reaching out to the various NGOs working in diverse social sectors.

Important issues like type and structure of network, eligibility and selection criteria for the network NGOs, delegation of roles and responsibilities STAPI / District Lead NGO's / District field level NGOs were discussed during 19-20 April 2016 training program organized at STAPI.

Important aspects like our mentoring role, handling district specific issues and their inclusion in capacity building areas, co-ordination and optimum utilization of district specific resources, Inclusion of district specific thematic areas were discussed during the project close out meeting of 28-30 June 2016 organized at STAPI.
