Capacity Building trainings with multiple participant groups, including sex workers on issues related to HIV / AIDS prevention, care and treatment among sex workers and their regular clients at Mumbai and Thane under Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Grant ID # 52015.

Family Health International (FHI) is implementing the AASTHA project with the support of two lead partners namely: Society for Services to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA); and Family Planning Association of India (FPA of India) through 15 NGO implementing partners (IPs), with the aim to 'Reduce the incidence of STI and HIV transmission among sex workers and their regular partners in Mumbai and Thane.'

The first phase of the project (2004 to 2009) focused on HIV prevention. AASTHA Phase II commenced in December 2008 where in addition to HIV prevention, the focus of the project is on the provision of HIV testing, care and treatment services for sex workers and their clients.

The overall objective was to generate discussion, increase knowledge and build skills on issues related to early HIV testing, antiretroviral therapy (ART), HIV prevention, care and support, program and clinic management thereby improving quality and efficiency of services.

A Contract for conduct of 25 capacity building trainings with multiple participant groups, including sex workers on issues related to HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment amongst sex workers and their regular clients at Mumbai and Thane under Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was initiated from 1.7.2009.

STAPI as an MNGO for Revised RCH -II Project :

STAPI is implementing the revised RCH II Project in the Pune and Raigad districts of Maharashtra with seven Partner NGOs viz four from Pune Districts and three from Raigad districts. The preparatory phase of the revised RCH project was over in August 2006. The three year project commenced during September 2006 came to an end in December 2009.

The first phase of 18 months was over in March 2008. The second phase was over in March 2009. The third and the last phase commenced in April 2009. A total grant of Rs.9,53,037/- was released during the year 2009-2010.

The Revised RCH-II Project focused on safe delivery, complete immunization, adolescent health education, family planning, RTI / STI, age at marriage, malnutrition of both women and children. The various MNGO Project activities included micro planning; capacity building trainings for the project field staff; monitoring cum onsite training by public health experts and providing implementation assistance including regular feedback on monthly narrative (descriptive) numerical & financial activity reports of partner NGOs. 

Two Capacity Building trainings of Village Health Workers, Project Coordinators & Project Holders of 7 partner NGOs were organized during 6-8 April 2009 and 15-16 July 2009 respectively. The programme covered sessions on review of 3 years of Project implementation, discussions on external evaluation of FNGOs for the year 2008-09, end line survey, feedback on financial audit. 

The other project activities included monitoring field visits and on-spot trainings for the FNGOs, Participation in various meetings called by District and State RCH Society, Internal financial audit of 07 partner NGOs. An external evaluation of 7 partner NGOs was also conducted during the period under report.

Conduct of day / residential training programs for sex worker community members, AASTHA Project field / clinical staff in Mumbai & Thane Districts of Maharashtra under Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation , Grant ID # 52015

Family Health International (FHI) is implementing the AASTHA project with the support of 2 main implementing partners - namely Society for Service to Voluntary Agencies (SOSVA) and Family Planning Association of India (FPA of India) with the active support of 11 partner NGOs which are implementing the project on the ground.

The aim of the project is to 'reduce the incidences of STI and HIV transmission among sex workers and their regular partners in Mumbai and Thane.' The first phase of the project ran form the year 2004 to 2009. The focus of the project was STI prevention and treatment

The project responded to the needs of sex workers and their regular partners, in Mumbai and Thane by providing with HIV prevention services in synergy with the efforts of Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS), Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS), AVERT Society and NGOs.

After the successful completion of AASTHA phase I, the AASTHA project phase II  was conceived with the aim to 'consolidate and sustain HIV prevention impact by implementing a saled prevention program with high-risk groups (HRGs) in Mumbai and Thane districts of Maharashtra and transferring programs and learning's to government and communities.' The project now includes the HIV testing, counseling, care, treatment & support needs of the segmented target audience. This has resulted in new training needs for the staff as well as key community members.

The major groups the project works with are sex workers both floating as well as brothel based, bargirls, MSWs, 'hijra' community and their regular partners. These communities are highly mobile and therefore the interventions take place at their workplaces and residence with restricted access.

A contract for conduct of 176 capacity building trainings for 684 project staff of Nurses, ORWs, Counselors, AASTHA Parivaar  Governing Body, PE Trainers, AOs, Community Advocates, Pes and CVs, CDOs, CBO Members, PLHIV group leaders including the IP staff, of 11 imolementing partners (44 residential and non - residential & 132 IP Level trainings) under Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, (Grant ID # 52015) was initiated form 15.5.2010

A total of 30 trainings (Resi-8; Non - Resi - 22) on issues related to HIV / AIDS prevention, care and treatment amongst sex workers and their regular partners at Mumbai and Thane were organized for project staff consisting of IP Staff Nurse, ORWs, Counselors, AASTHA Parivaar Governing Body, PE Trainers, AOs, Community Advocates, Pes and CVs. CDOs, CBO Members, PLHIV group's leaders of 11 partner NGOs of lead partners i.e. SOSVA and FPAI.

STAPI has organized and  provided all the logistic facilities for these trainings. 

I.P. Level Trainings under AASTHA Project :

An important feature of AASTHA Project of 2010 - 2011 was conduct land facilitation of training of peer Educators by PE trainers of 11 CBOs formed by 11 Implementing Partners (IPs) of SOSVA & FPAI.

The annual calendar of IP Level training was developed in consultation with FHI, MIPs and IPs for new / old PEs and new ORWs.

Training coordinator and Training officer facilitated, monitored and provided supportive supervision to IP trainers during the IP level trainings.

AVERT-STRC –RTI Contract :

The year saw STAPI’s recognition as a Regional Training Institute by AVERT Society – STRC for conduct of capacity building trainings, supporting operational research and Learning site development of the project partners of the AVERT society and Maharashtra State AIDS control society (MSACS) for Pune and Marathwada regions. The tenth month contract for project duration August 13, 2010 -30 June, 2011, was signed on 13/08/2010 at Mumbai

Strategic Objectives of the Project :

  • Ensuring need-based quality training of Targeted Intervention’s Project as per NACP III’s technical and operational guidelines 
  • Development of local resources like facilitators for training, demonstration sites to ensure that the skills development process is sustained 
  • Enhancing the capacity if NGO's and Civil Society Organization in proposal development for NACP funded Targeted Intervention (TI)  Projects

As a part of the project launching, a five day induction training of project staff and the project core team of STAPI as a Regional training Institution was organized by AVERT –STRC during 23-27 August  2010  two academic committee meetings were also organized on 27/8/2010 & on 15/5/2011 at Mumbai 

The Project staff of STAPI was trained through 2 TOT trainings which were organized during 28-29 October and 7-10 December 2010 at Mumbai and a National Level TOT for Rolling out of peer Educators Training and a midterm review during 8-10 November 2010 at Delhi

The Project team of STAPI also participated in experience sharing & review meeting (ESRM) which was organized during 5-7 Jan 2011 by  AVERT –STRC at Mumbai

As a part of STRC Project an exposure visit to STRC Kerala was organize by AVERT-STRC for RTI team Members during 28-29 January 2011. This was a good learning experience for our project team.

STAPI organized 22 training for project staff of various targeted intervention project of AVERT Society ,Maharashtra state AIDS Control society (MSACS) and Dadra Nagar Haveli AIDS Control Society (D&NH) under AVERT-STRC Project during September 2010-March 2011 .Total 478 project staff of 91 NGOs covering 25 districts have been so far

Five training batched of peer Educators at four districts places ( Jalgaon -2, Raigad 1, Dhule -1 & Thane -1) were also organized during December 2010 to March 2011

 

STAPI as an MNGO for Revised RCH - II Project :

The three year Revised RCH II Project commenced during September 2006 in Pune and Raigad districts of Maharashtra with the support of seven Partner NGOs (04 - form Pune District & 03 form Raigad District) came to an end in December 2009.

An external evaluation of 07 partner NGOs was conducted by, B.J. Medical College, Pune and by Sir J J groups of Hospital, Byculla Mumbai for Pune and Raigad partner NGOs respectively during 2009-2010.

Conducted of RCH Project Audit of MNGO and FNGO under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) by Khire Khandekar & Kirloskar Associates

As per the directives of state Health Society, the team of auditors form Khire Khandekar and Kirloskar associates – Sangli conducted an audit of Revised RCH-II Project during 1-5 February 2011

The team audited the project accounts of both STAPI as an MNGO and its 7 partner NGOs for the years 2004-2005 to 2009-2010. The teams expressed its satisfaction towards the project management and programme &financial monitoring Project partners.    

STAPI’s recognition as “Continuing Education Training Centre (CETC) for state of Maharashtra by Enable Health Society for the project “Promoting Access to Care and Treatment (PACT)” September 2010 - March 2012

Enable Health Society was earlier affiliated to Engender Health, an international NGO with over 60 years of experience in HIV/AIDS in India, is a part of consortium of local Indian NGOs for implementing Promoting Access to care and Treatment (PACT) as a part of global funds for HIV / AIDS.

The overall goal of the programme is “to improve the survival and quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS”. The project is focusing on scaling up of ART adherence and to ensure increased access to quality care and support services to people living with HIV in project areas. The successful implementation of the ACT project paved the way for  Global Fund invitation for Rolling Continuation Channel for PACT project; consolidation of Global Fund Round IV & VI.

The Enable Health Society, as a capacity building partner for the PACT programme is working with CBO providers from the networks of the people living with HIV in strengthening the peer treatment education. EHS will be organizing series of trainings on HIV Treatment Adherence, Men as Partners, Facilitative Supervision and Sexual and Reproductive Health for District Project Coordinators, Peer Educators, Positive Speakers, Support Net officers associated with the various District PLHA networks.

The CETC-D in Maharashtra i.e. STAPI came on board on 1st September 2011. Total 13 residential trainings of 5 days duration each were organized during September 2011 – March 2012.

The EHS Delhi and Chennai teams conducted programme and finance review on 11 – 12 November 2011. The first year programme and finance review (for the period Sept 2011 – March 2012) is planned on 7-8 May 2012.

The project “SPRIC” meetings (State Programme Implementation Review Committee) with EHS & Population Foundation of India were organized on 18/1/2012

AVERT STRC - RTI Project - July 2011 – March 2012.

The year saw extension of AVERT Society – STRC-RTI Project till June 2012. The other project activities included support for conduct of operational to the AVERT society for conduct of operational research and learning site development of the project partners of AVERT Society and Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) for Pune and Marathwada regions.

STAPI Organized 59 training for project staff of various targeted intervention projects of AVERT society, Maharashtra State AIDS Control society (MSACS) and Dadra Nagar Haveli AIDS Control Society (D&NH) under AVERT –RTI project during September 2010-March 2012

A Total of 37 training, (20 In-house and 17 outstation ) were organized 12 Districts of Maharashtra (Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Dhule, Godiya, Jalana, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Nasik, Parbhani, Pune, Raigad & Thane) during the year 2011-2012. Total 620 project staff of 91 NGOs covering 30 districts were Trained during the period under report. This also including 21 PE trainings organized in 12 districts of Maharashtra.     

The Training Need Assessment was also conducted in Jalgaon, Dhule, Aurangabad and Thane districts with 8 TI Project partners of AVERT & MSACS. The experience sharing and review meeting for TNA was organized in Mumbai on 16/7/2011.

The project team has participated in 20 (11 Review meetings & 9 TOT Trainings) meetings called by AVERT Society during the period August 2010 – March 2012.

The Resource center under AVERT-STRC-RTI Project has been functional since 2/2/2012. 

The first year contract evaluation for 2010 – 2011 was held by NACO on 18-19 June 2011. The second year contract evaluation (for 2011 – 2012) was held by NACO on 4/2/2012.

The Phase II of the project focused on HIV testing, counseling, care, treatment & support needs of the segmented target audience.

A total of 32 trainings (Resi-9; Non-Resi - 23) on issues related to HIV / AIDS prevention, care and treatment amongst sex workers and their regular partners at Mumbai and Thane) were organized during 2010-2012 for project staff consisting of IP Staff Nurse, ORWs, Counselors, AASTHA Parivaar Governing Body, PE Trainers, AOs, Community Advocates, PEs and CVs, CDOs, CBO Members, PLHIV group’s leaders of 11 partner NGOs of lead partners i.e. SOSVA and FPAI.

In addition to these trainings, total 55 IP level trainings (SOSVA IP’s - 29 and FPAI IPs – 26) were organized by 11 Implementing Partners of SOSVA (4) and Family Planning Association of India (7) during the period August – November 2010.

STAPI has organized and provided all the logistic facilities for these trainings.

Capacity Building and Exposure Study visit of MPH students of ELON University North Carolina, USA on Urban Health in India - 23 - 24 January 2013:-

Capacity Building and Exposure Study Visit of 16 MPH students of ELON University North Carolina, USA was organized during 23 - 24 January 2013.

The objective of exposure visit was to study urban health issues of India, status of urban population of India and to know more about NGOs working on different aspects of urban health and urban population.

The 2 days capacity building training provided insights to status of urban population; public health care systems providers and direct interaction with the local urban communities. 

STAPI's partnership with Family Health International-FHI 360 for capacity building and strengthening AASTHA Parivar and its 13 CBOs (June 2012 - September 2013) :

STAPI entered into a tri-partite agreement with FHI 360 viz FHI 360 - STAPI; STAPI - AASTHA Parivar; AASTHA Parivar - STAPI - CBOs for support of capacity building and strengthening of AASTHA Parivaar and 13 Community based organizations for providing need based services to the beneficiaries from Mumbai and Thane districts of Maharashtra, with effect from June 2012.

STAPI was entrusted with the responsibility to strengthen the program management and capacity building of AASTHA Parivaar and 13 CBO Secretariat during the project duration.

150 CBO members (working as President, Vice President, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer, Community Development Officers and M&E Officer) of 13 CBOs were trained in the areas of capacity building CBO Management, Project Formulation, Project & Financial Management, Resource Mobilization and Entrepreneurship in 8 training batches (6 at Pune & 2 at Mumbai) during June 2012 - February 2013 with the active support of AASTHA Parivaar. 

1) “Continuing Education Training Centre” (CETC) for state of Maharashtra by Enable Health Society for the project “Promoting Access to Care and Treatment (PACT)” September 2010 - March 2013 : 

The Enable Health Society, as a capacity building partner for the PACT programme is working with CBO providers from the networks of the people living with HIV in strengthening the peer treatment education.

STAPI as a “Continuing Education Training Centre” (CETC) under PACT Project of Enable Health Society (EHS) trained 449 district level network members from Maharashtra (170 - Male 279 Female) in 24 residential trainings organized during September 2011- March 2013 (13 trainings during September 2011 - March 2012 and 11 trainings in April 2012-March 2013). 

Logistic support was also provided for conduct of trainings in Mumbai on HIV Treatment Adherence, Men as Partners, Facilitative Supervision and Sexual and Reproductive Health for District Project Coordinators, Peer Educators, Positive Speakers, and Support Net officers associated with the various District PLHA networks.

The EHS Delhi and Chennai teams conducted programme and finance review in November 2011. The first year programme and finance review (for the period Sept 2011 - March 2012) was held on 7 - 8 May 2012. The meeting of State Programme Implementation Review Committee (SPIRC) was also organized on 27/7/2012.

2) AVERT - STRC - RTI Project- April-June 2012 :

The year also saw extension of “Regional Training Institution” (RTI) by AVERT Society-STRC for conduct of capacity building trainings, supporting operational research and learning site development of the project partners of AVERT Society and Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) for Pune and Marathwada regions for the period April - June 2012.

A Total of 261 (70 female, 191 male) participants comprising of different cadres of targeted intervention projects from 27 districts were trained in 11 trainings organized during April 2012 - June 2012.

STAPI organized a total of 70 trainings for project staff consisting of Project Director, Project Co-ordinator, Counselors, ORW's Peer Educators, M & E Officers and Accountants of 91 targeted intervention projects of AVERT Society Mumbai, Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) and Dadra Nagar Haveli AIDS Control Society (D&NH) under AVERT-STRC-RTI project during September 2010-June 2012. (22 in 2010-2011; 37 in 2011-2012 and 11 in 2012-2013 (April-June 2012).

 

Targeted Intervention Project with 10,000 Migrants in Pune District.

Maharashtra State AIDS Prevention Control Society (MSACS) approved targeted intervention project activities with 10,000 migrants from Shirur and Ranjangaon MIDC area of Pune district during the period under report. The project was initially approved for January 2013-March 2013.

The project intervention aimed to halt & reverse the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among the migrant population and to provide quality services for their sexual health needs in Pune district.

The project activities were launched in MIDC Ranjangaon, and will subsequently cover Shirur, where the third DIC will be set up. The project team consists of Programme Manager; Doctor; Counselor; M & E Officer; 5 ORW's and Peer Leaders.

The project mapping was conducted during 12 -16 February 2013. A total of 3 health camps were organized at Ganesh Stone Crusher, Pepsico, PEPSICO WareHouse- RadhaKrishna Foods Pvt Ltd (RFPL) during the period under report.

The process of formation of Project Advisory Committee is on. We also participated in review meetings organized by AVERT TSU and District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU).

The project office and 2 DIC's have been set up during the period under report.

Capacity Building and Exposure Study visit of MPH students of ELON University North Carolina, USA on “Urban Health” in India - 21-23 January 2014

Capacity Building and Exposure Study Visit of 16 MPH students of ELON University North Carolina, USA was organized during 21-23 January 2014. The objective of the exposure visit by the students was to study urban health issues and status of urban population of India and to know more about NGOs working on different aspects of urban health and urban population. The three day training included sessions on Challenges in women Health with specific focus on declining sex ratio PCPNDT and MTP Act in India; Public Health, Health System and Urban Health Issues in India; Orientation on “Health of Urban Poor” - A project of Plan India; Experience sharing on Urban Health Challenges and Strategies with Institute of Health Management- Pachod (IHMP); Urban Health- Community Paradoxes; Experience sharing with “Urban Health Practitioner" and understanding mental health issues in India. 

STAPI's Partnership with Family Health International-FHI 360 for Capacity Building and Strengthening AASTHA Parivar and 13 CBOs (June 2012-February 2013-February 2014)

FHI 360 approved a project for support for strengthening AASTHA Parivar and Community Based Organizations for providing need based services for the beneficiaries for the initial period June 2012-February 2013 was further extended till February 2014. STAPI was entrusted with the responsibility to strengthen the program management and technical capacity of AASTHA Parivar and 13 CBO Secretariat from Mumbai and Thane districts of Maharashtra.

166 CBO members (working as President, Vice President, Secretary, Vice Secretary, Treasurer, Community Development Officers and M&E Officer) of 13 CBOs were trained in the areas of CBO management, Project and Finance Management, Resource Mobilization & Social Entrepreneurship, Generate and Start Business in 07 training batches (03 at Pune & 04 at Mumbai) during the year under report. 

The partnership with FHI 360 came to an end in February 2014.The Governing Council of STAPI put on record its gratitude and sincere thanks to FHI 360, AASTHA Parivar and 13 Community Based Organizations for their support in project implementation.

Implementation of Targeted Intervention Project “MITRHA” with 10,000 Migrant Population in Shirur and MIDC Ranjangaon of Pune District

Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) approved targeted intervention project activities with 10,000 migrant population from Shirur and Ranjangaon MIDC area of Pune district. The project which was initially approved for a period of 3 months (January 2013-March 2013) was extended to the year 2013-2014. The project team consists of Programme Manager, Doctor, Counselor, M & E Officer, 5 ORW's and 8 Peer Leaders.

The project intervention aimed to halt & reverse the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among the migrant population and to provide quality services for their sexual health needs in Pune district.

The first meeting of the Project Advisory Committee was organized on 04/06/2013 at ITI Karegaon Tal.- Shirur, District Pune. The venue and other logistic arrangements were provided by Ranjangaon Industries Association (RIA).

 

The “Work Place Intervention" (WPI) was launched at Whirlpool of India Ltd, MIDC, Ranjangaon, Tal.- Shirur, District Pune on 4/10/2013.

The project MITHRA has provided project services to 13,809 high risk migrants out of which 1336 HRG's have done their HIV testing, out of which 177 STI cases were detected. 4324 high risk migrants, have undergone STI screening and 737 high risk migrants have undergone VDRL screening.

A total of 83 health camps were organised during period under report. 1,336 HRG's done their HIV testing in 83 Health camps. 

 

Launching of TI Migrant Project “DOSTI” for 10000 Migrant Population (Loom Workers) in Bhiwandi Block of Thane District :

The project approved by the Public Health Foundation of India for 10000 migrant population consists of intervention aimed to halt & reverse the prevalence of HIV / AIDS among the migrant population and to provide quality services for their sexual health needs in Thane district.

The initial sanction was for December 2013-March 2014. The project office was identified during period under report. A team of Programme Manager, Monitoring and Evaluation officer and two Outreach Workers came on board during the year under report .

Targeted intervention project with 10,000 migrants population (Loom Workers) in Bhivandi Block of Thane District - Project

The project activities included conduct of 149 STI and ICTC camps, street plays, 21 advocacy meeting, 15 Demand Generation activities; 10 Congregation events. The project intervention have reached out  to 8061 migrants  during  2015-2016. The follow up with 11,531  registered migrants  is also on during the period under report.

The external evaluation for the years 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 took place during 21-22 January 2016. The evaluation team expressed its satisfaction towards the overall implementation of the programme.

 

Targeted Intervention Project with 10,000 migrants in Shirur and MIDC Ranjangaon of Pune District-Project “MITRHA” 

Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) approved, targeted intervention project activities with 10,000 migrants from Shirur and Ranjangaon MIDC area of Pune district  during 2013-2016.

The project intervention aimed to halt & reverse the  prevalence  of  HIV/AIDS  among  the  migrant  population   and  to  provide quality  services  for their  sexual health needs in Pune district.

The STI, ICTC Camps, Advocacy Meetings, Demand Generation Activities, Mid Media  Activities, were organized during the year 2015-2016.

 

Project “SATHI” - Targeted Intervention Project with 10,000 migrants in Katraj, Narhe and Ambegaon area of Katraj of Pune City.   

Maharashtra State AIDS Prevention Control Society (MSACS) approved a  targeted intervention project activities with 10,000 migrant population – Construction Workers in Katraj, Narhe and Ambegaon of  Pune  City  during  March 2015.

The activities like conduct of Health Camps; STI Camps; Advocacy Meetings, Demand Generation activities, Congregation Events were organized during the period under report. 

 

Project Jagruti se Unnati - A CSR Project Partnership with SKS Micro Finance Pvt. Ltd. 

STAPI entered into a pilot CSR Project Partnership with SKS Micro Finance Pvt. Ltd., Hyderabad for awareness and dissemination of Janani Suraksha Yojana, Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana, Individual House Hold Toilet Construction Scheme, Indira Gandhi Old Age Pension Scheme, Savitri Bai Phule Duttak Yojana and Prime Minister Jan Dhan Scheme to local population from 11 villages of 03 blocks. Around 500 local population availed the benefits of these schemes.

 

Need Assessment Study of Village Pandharewadi in Daund Block of Pune District of Maharashtra with specific focus on menstrual health management 

A Needs Assessment Study with specific focus on menstrual health management in villages of Pandharewadi and Kurkumbha from Daund Block of Pune District with the financial support of Alkyl Amines Chemicals Ltd (AACL) will be undertaken during 2016-2017.

A preliminary meeting with the GramPanchyat Officials and school management authorities was organized at Gram Panchyat Pandharewadi on 18/3/2016

Implementation of Targeted Intervention Project DOSTI with 10,000 Migrants (Loom Workers) in Bhivandi Block of Thane District :

Targeted Intervention Project “DOSTI” for migrants (Loom Workers) is implemented since December 2013. Activities like conduct of STI / RTI Camps, Street Plays, Advocacy Meetings, Demand Generation activities and Congregation events were organized during the period under report. 

 

Partnership with Alkyl Amines Chemicals Ltd (AACL) :

Alkyl Amines Chemicals Ltd (AACL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approved study on menstrual health management. The study focused on mind set change/ behavioral change from a traditional approach to the scientific approach with regard to health and hygiene during the menstrual cycle

The project outreach activities like baseline Survey and awareness & sensitization meetings Advocacy sessions with the Block Level Health Administration and Aaganwadi Workers from villages of Pandhrewadi and Kurkumbh, Block Daund District Pune were conducted during the period under report as a part of Needs Assessment Study.

Capacity Building and Exposure Study visit of MPH students of ELON University North Carolina, USA on “Urban Health” in India -21-23 January 2015

Capacity Building and Exposure Study visit of 16 MPH students of ELON University North Carolina, USA was organized during 21-23 January 2015. The objective of the exposure visit was to study urban health issues and status of urban population of India and to know more about NGOs working on different aspects of urban health and urban population.

The three day training included sessions on Challenges in women Health with specific focus on declining sex ratio - Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 2001 ; Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act 1971  in India; Public Health, Health System and Urban Health Issues  in India;  Orientation on “Health of Urban Poor” -  A project of Plan India; Experience sharing on Urban Health Challenges and Strategies with Institute of Health Management- Pachod  (IHMP); Urban Health- Community Paradoxes; Experience sharing with “Urban Health Practitioner “and understanding mental health issues in India. 

 

State Training and Resource Centre (STRC) Project

Sosva Training and Promotion Institute (STAPI), has been recognized as a “State Resource Training Centre (STRC)”  by National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), New Delhi for capacity building of MSACS supported project staff and community members  of various targeted intervention projects such as (FSW / MSM / Migrant / Trucker / Link Workers IDUs and Core Composite) implemented across Maharashtra. The approval and signing of the contract with NACO  was on 31/07/2014.

The various ctivities under  STRC Project included conduct of capacity building trainings for project staff of 125 TI Projects; counduct of  trainings of Peer Educators; Development of Learning Site, Conduct of Operational Research, Follow up visits; Development of Resource Centre and website development of STRC Proejct.  

Objectives of NACO- STRC Project :

  • Building capacities of TI Project Functionaries to ensure qualitative improvement in programme implementation

  • Ensuring need-based quality training of TI-s as per NACP-IV technical and operational   guidelines

  • Developing local resources such as facilitators for trainings and demonstration sites, to ensure that the skill development process is sustained

  • Undertaking operational research and learning site development

The cadre and typology wise trainings for capacity building of project staff of  125 TI Projects supported by  MSACS across Maharashtra was and Technical support Unit, MSACS.

The Training Needs Assessment (TNA) of 09 TI Projects from 04 districts of Maharashtra was  conducted during September-October 2014. An orientation and induction Training of STRC Staff was organized by NACO during 7-10 October 2014. The Training of Trainers (ToT) on Migrant Destination on New Service Delivery System was organized by NACO during  6-8  January 2015

A total of  28 Batches were organized during November 2014-March 2015. (11 in November; 09 in December; 08 in  January 2015  (as of  31/3/2015).  

The Acdemic Committee consisting of representatives from MSACS, officials from Techical Support Unit MSACS, Academicians, Trainers, Representatives from established NGOs imparting training at grass root level in development sector, Social Workers, representatives from the community, was approved by Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACs).

Two Academic Committee Meetings were organized  during period under report.

The first Academic Committee in its meeting on 31/10/2014 at STAPI deliberated on scope and deliverables, training content, methodology and the training modules for different cardres of various TI Project Staff to be trained under STRC Proejct and the TNA findings.

The second Academic Committee Meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Project Director MSACS.

The Memebers of the Academic Committee,during the second Meeting discussed various activities of STRC viz review of training activities organsied during November 2014-January 2015; Planning for counduct of Peer Educators Trainings; subjects / theme for opertaioanl reasearch (on the basis of TNA and identified training gaps); learning site development.

The Academic Committee also deliberated on formation of a joint committee of STAPI MSACS and NARI as a “Techincal Partner” for review and revision of training contents of the Peer Educators Trainings and for conduct of operational research on the basis of TNA and training gaps.

Community Based Monitoring Planning and Process Project (CBMP) with the support of Maharashtra State Health Mission and State Health Systems Resource Centre ( SHSRC) Maharashtra :

STAPI have been selected as “State Nodal NGO” for Community Based Planning and Monitoring Project (CBMP) Project across 226 villages and 28 Primary Health Care Centre’s (PHC's) from Raigad, Ahmednagar, Amravati and Chandrapur districts of Maharashtra Since November 2017. The project activities included conduct of district and block level community based activities like Block and Primary Health Care Centre (PHC) level JANSAMVAD, Conduct of PHC and block level meetings of monitoring committees, sensitization of Village Health Sanitation & Nutrition Committees (VHSNC) and conduct of advocacy initiatives at Village, PHC, Panchayat and District level.

 

Targeted Intervention Project ‘DOSTI’ with 10,000 Migrants (Loom Workers) in Bhivandi Block of Thane District :

Activities like conduct of STI/RTI Camps, Street Plays, Advocacy Meetings, Demand Generation activities and Congregation events were organized during the period under report. Project evaluation was conducted during 28 February -2 March 2018. 

Community Based Monitoring and Planning Processes Project (CBMP) with the support of National Health Mission(NHM), Mumbai and Technical support by State Health Services Resource Centre ( SHSRC)

The Project Geographical coverage is 228 villages and 28 PHC's from four districts of Maharashtra. Raigad (54 Villages - 7 PHC's), Ahmednagar (65 Villages - 7 PHC's ) Amravati (55Villages - 7 PHC's )  and Chandrapur (54 villages - 7 PHC's ).

State Level Workshop for Review and Planning Meeting and State level capacity Building Workshop for District and Block level trainers of CBMP Project Partners from Raigad, Ahmednagar, Amravati and Chandrapur Districts of Maharashtra were organized during 19-21 July  2018 & 12-14 December 2018 respectively at STAPI.

The activities of block and district partner NGOs included awareness / sensitization and Mobilization activities / meetings in project villages, Meetings of Primary Health Care Centre / Block / District level monitoring and mentoring committees, Conduct of 15 PHC Level and one district level JANSAMVAD’s at  Amravati, Conduct of 08 Block  level Jansamvad‘s  (Karjat, Sudhagad, Sangamner, Ahmednagar, Chandur Railway, Achalpur, Chandrapur and Jivati); Advocacy initiatives at Village, PHC, Block, Panchayat and District level, handholding support, supportive supervision and field visits to project PHC's and Villages.

NASSCOM–Mphasis–Mundhwa“SAKSHAM”Project:-April 2016- February 2018

National Digital Literacy Mission Project with the financial support of Mphasis and technical support of NASSCOM Foundation,was implemented during December 2015-February 2018.

Community Mobilization Activities included Baseline survey,advocacy meeting sand meetings with stakeholders (AanagawadiSevika, Local Influential Individuals, local NGOs, SHG's, YuvakMandals, MahilaMandals etc. We have enrolled and trained 488 trainees during April 2016- March2017.

 A total of 1688 trainees were trained and enrolled during April 2017- February 2018.
